What does this measure?
The total change in the number of people living in a geographic area since 2000.
Why is this important?
Changes in total population can indicate the overall health of a community and its ability to attract and retain residents.
How is our region performing?
From 2000 to 2015, the total population of the region grew 18.2% to over 972,000. This compares to growth of 16.0% in the state and 14.2% in the nation. Sevier County had the most growth, 34.8%, while Loudon, Blount, and Jefferson counties also had strong gains of 30.8%, 20.3% and 20.2% respectively. The City of Knoxville gained 6.6%, with a total population of 185,000.
